Curcumin Helps Improve Blood Sugar Control

More recently, a large umbrella review and updated meta-analysis evaluating randomized controlled trials concluded that turmeric and curcumin significantly improve fasting blood glucose and HbA1c, reinforcing earlier findings.

Curcumin Improves Insulin Sensitivity
Improving insulin sensitivity is arguably curcumin's most important metabolic benefit.
Instead of forcing the pancreas to produce more insulin, curcumin appears to make the body's cells respond more efficiently to the insulin already present.

Another review of meta-analyses found remarkable consistency: 12 out of 12 meta-analyses reported significant reductions in HOMA-IR (a standard measure of insulin resistance), while most also showed reductions in HbA1c and fasting insulin.

Can Turmeric Help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes?
Perhaps the most impressive human study involved people with prediabetes.
Researchers followed adults with elevated blood sugar who had not yet developed diabetes. Participants received either curcumin or a placebo for nine months.
The results were striking:
- 0% of participants taking curcumin developed type 2 diabetes.
- 16.4% of those taking placebo progressed to diabetes.

Curcumin May Help Reduce Belly Fat

Reported side effects are generally mild and include:

- Mild nausea
- Diarrhea
However, people taking blood thinners, certain diabetes medications, or those with gallbladder disease should consult a healthcare professional before using high-dose curcumin supplements.
